2012
World Coming to an End? This action packed film was good for the action and that was about it. I loved the action! Seeing the world fall apart was a little scary especially since it really is supposed to happen thank you Mayan Calendar and other sources who have backed this theory. But seeing the earth fall apart piece by piece no matter how mind blowing that may be was pretty cool as long as it is only in the theaters. The acting was so-so. Their abilities to convince me of how they would actually act if the world was ending was not very convincing. And as for reality well they pushed reality to the limit. Some of the scenes were so ridiculous all you could say to yourself was "yeah rigggghtttt" they were impossible. Hopefully my dad can maneuver our SUV the way Jackson (Cusack) does in the film and is as savvy to go around the world like he does. Charlie (Harrelson) does play a very quirky yet funny role in the film which helped the film out a little bit but overall it was what most would call a rent has ter. Iminimal plot with tons of action more than enough action for one movie which is necessary every once in awhile. The ending was not completely predictable making that the best part of the movie it was nice to at least not know the outcome.
The Blind Side
This movie had it all. After dealing with a few of my own down's in life I needed the remedy of a good movie and this movie gave me that. It had emotion, was unpredictable and was just a downright really great movie. It was a heart wrenching story of a boy who was given a great chance to make something of himself and his life but was homeless and didn't have the backing to do so. So Leigh Anne (Bullock) stepped in. Bullock played an amazing role dazzling the screen making the movie brilliant and bringing that perfect cry I needed in the first place to the surface. Best of all the ending but I can't tell you what happens! Bullock deserves mad props for her performance, golden globe anyone? I can't say enough about the acting and chemistry of the film I felt the emotions running through my veins the entire time and really could not ask for anything more from a film. And the little boy S.J (Head) was hilarious to bring that humor into the film besides Bullock and Aaron I could not get enough of him. A Must See in my opinion!
Grade A Movie.
NEW MOON: Twilight Saga
Well I saw twilight along with every other tween at the midnight premiere. The line was out of control and one girl even brought a cardboard cut out of Robert Pattinson aka Edward Cullen with her to the movie she was a good distance between me, otherwise I was very interested in whether she had to buy a ticket for the life size Cullen cut out. It was madness and I had to wait over an hour in my seat with my extra large small frozen cola watching the eager fans waiting for the film to being. It only got crazier when Pattinson first appeared on scream the roar of screams and owow's that came from the gasping girls was mind blowing in itself. As a avid book reader I had not appreciated the first movie that much because to me the book was so much better. I unfortunately felt the same way about the second film. As much as I appreciated the beautiful eye candy given by Edward (Pattinson) and the newly buff Jacob (Lautner) the acting was way below par making the book once again the better choice. The effects were 100 times better but it still lacked the emotion and acting ability seen in other films but was expected in a teen movie. It is a teen film that has a hot romance brewing on screen which would make my 14 yr old self swoon just as it did every teenager in the audience. Mixed with a little action, I can see why it would be a hit to a younger audience who does not appreciate the acting so much as what is actually going on. On-screen the chemistry between Edward and Bella and Jacob? That was the best part of the movie even though it was predictable what was going on and what was going to happen. Overall I enjoyed the movie because it did not require a lot of brain power and I was in the middle of finals week with little brain power to spare. But I gotta give a owow myself to Lautner for his body it was enough to make any person look twice.
Grade C-
AVATAR
Well I went and saw the most expensive movie ever made. I went with my dad for his birthday he was dying to see it and how do you say no to your dad on his 59th Birthday, you can't! Not that I minded I was interested in going to see a bunch of really tall blue things that closely resembled a mix between a sea creature and a feline. And what was even better was we were seeing it 3D pretty awesome! So we got in the car at 10PM paid out 10 dollars, got some popcorn and watched. And to say the least I was impressed with Cameron's film production. It had a wonderful mix of fairytale, adventure, thrill and romance to capture the heart of the majority of the theater including the obnoxious couple behind us who had a side comment after every scene straight from the previews on.
Pandora was beautiful it had a stunning mystical feeling that was a cross between the Amazon and deep under the ocean. The creatures in the film even crossed between land and sea mammals which was very creative in my opinion. The tribe in the film, the large blue avatar were enchanting right along side their homeland. Their culture resembled that of a Native American tribe making the movie feel more realistic. They showed a great appreciation for the earth and their way of life was nothing less than honorable. Native American culture is fascinating to me so therefore so was this movie. Their passion like the avatar's passion is something to live up to and the moral to the story was what makes the film so great. That is not to say that it did not have its cheesy parts. Stephen Lang's facial expression and drive had me in a chuckle at a few parts during the film because to me they were not what I consider convincing. But overall the cast did a wonderful job in making the movie what it was, making you feel you were part of Pandora experiencing their beautiful world. I was able to leave the theater with a different outlook for the world surrounding even if it is not as cool as Pandora. Overall I throughly enjoyed the film and recommend it to others if you enjoy action packed romance films with a obvious sci-fi flare.
It was a Grade A Movie.
"This is Only the Beginning"
My first blog post. I never would have guessed that I would blog anything let alone anything about movies, until I realized movies were what I love. I really enjoy all types of movies and I love to talk about them. So I have decided to share my thoughts on movies and give them a grade hopefully to help people realize what they are in for when they sit down on their couch or pay 10 dollars when they go to the theater. Ten bucks ain't cheap especially if you are sitting down for the longest hour and a half of your life and when you leave the theater all you can think about is how you wish you could get your ten dollars back and that last few hours of your life to boot. So I hope my blog can help out a little bit and maybe save you time and money once or twice along the road and most important hopefully I can also can give you a heads up on those timeless classics that we run into every once in awhile along the way.
